Description
This book serves as a musculoskeletal anatomical guide, a beginner's protocol guide, a compendium of normal protocol images, and a collection of images demonstrating pathology. This book covers both upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal structures including the shoulder, the elbow and arm, the wrist and hand, the knee and calf, the ankle, and the Achilles and foot. In addition, the text includes a discussion on normal anatomy, protocol, current paradigms, interventional techniques (including needle guidance and fenestration techniques), as well as the future of musculoskeletal ultrasound.
From the Author
The first question always asked is "Why use musculoskeletal ultrasound?" The ultrasound visualization of anatomical detail (high resolution and high magnification) is unsurpassed by any other diagnostic imaging modality. Ultrasound is also a dynamic real-time evaluation with no contraindications. Finally, ultrasound is a relatively inexpensive, accessible, and fast procedure that can be performed on a patient in an "open" comfortable examination setting. The caveat to using musculoskeletal ultrasound is that obtaining an accurate image and diagnosis is largely operator dependent. Becoming proficient at using this modality requires a steep learning curve, and becoming proficient as a diagnostician requires even great effort.
