David L. Dawson, MD, RPVI, RVT
Professor/Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery UC Davis Vascular Center Davis, California

Dr. David L. Dawson is Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of California, Davis. His practice at the UC Davis Vascular Center includes an emphasis on non-invasive vascular testing, as well as vascular and endovascular surgery. The UC Davis Vascular Laboratory provides comprehensive vascular testing services for inpatients, outpatients, and in satellite laboratories. He holds RVT and RPVI credentials.

Dr. Dawson's vascular specialty training was completed at the University of Washington. As a fellow in the laboratory of Dr. D. Eugene Strandness, Jr., he learned the principles of vascular imaging and performed clinical research on advanced ultrasound applications. After completing his clinical training, he served for ten years in the Air Force, a military career that included clinical and laboratory research, direction of the Wilford Hall Medical Center vascular laboratory, and a stint with NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. During his NASA assignment, Dr. Dawson's ultrasound expertise led to involvement in studies of the use of ultrasound imaging in zero gravity.

He has authored numerous original articles, book chapters, reviews, and invited commentaries on duplex scanning and vascular laboratory testing. He has taught vascular ultrasound use in educational courses of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Vascular Surgery, Society of Vascular Ultrasound, and in many other US and international programs.
As did his mentor, Dr. Strandness, Dr. Dawson considers knowledge and skill in the use and interpretation of vascular ultrasound to be requisites of any vascular specialist.
